I live in Tusquittee and am somewhat concerned about the proposed gun range on Nelson Ridge in our beautiful serene community that the Clay County Gun Club is asking for. At a recent community meeting "we" were all told by the project manager, Steve Lohr (Tusquittee Ranger, Tusquittee Ranger Distict) that this ongoing site location study would be coming to a close in Fall 2008 and there are only 2 location options for this project, all other locations have been ruled out for various reasons over the past 5 years. At our community meeting last night we are informed by an area resident that the "Gun Club" may be striking a deal with some area residents. The proposal is that the location for the gun range be near Chunky Gal,(this location was also ruled out in past 5 years) and that the gun club and Ranger Lohr would agree to this if area residents would fund the site studies. What has changed? I feel at this point in time that Tusquittee residents have a gun held to their heads and if we "pay up" they will not put the shooting range in our lovely community. This is underhanded in my estimation. The forest is big enough that putting it near a populated area should NEVER have been considered. So we only have to decide if we will put up with being held hostage because a few selfish people in the GUN CLUB want the citizens to help pay for their hobby. I have a concealed carry permit & owns several guns, so GUNS are not the issue here with me.
